   The afghans are not ready/willing to fight for their liberty. For this they only deserve the slavery waiting for them under the Taliban/ Al Qaeda. You cannot force anyone to be free. Until we realize that we will be wasting our time trying to “rebuild” Afghanistan.

   @bnaguy You’ll certainly not find me a fan of Obama’s–I think he’s a disaster–but the idea that this is a war for opium (unless you’re joking) is as ridiculous as the notion that the one in Iraq is for oil.

   Most Afghan soldiers aren’t this bad. Quality varies widely throughout different parts of the country, just like in Iraq. And just like in Iraq we can still win regardless of how crap some aspects of the country is. Also keep in mind that most taliban are God awful soldiers as well. Only a small percentage of them are decent at combat. What we really need is more troops. But Obama in his ultimate wisdom only gave McChrsystal a fraction fo what he asked for. Thanks Democraps.

    That’s their culture: sun comes up, pray, eat beans & rice, smoke some hash, sun goes down. Repeat.

    Ten years ago I saw an article about life in 1000 AD, with a picture of a guy dressed in rags munching a rabbit leg over a dark campfire. Europe was a broken continent, filled with disease hunger and death. No progress for 400 years in either direction. Imagine explaining to your ancestors the concepts of, say, germs, bacteria, democracy, civil rights, electricity, or the solar system.

    What the hell are we doing in Afghanistan? What a joke. What a waste of American lives. What a waste of money. Tell me how these troops in Afghanistan are doing something for you? Obama and Bush love blowing your tax money and making the dollar worthless. They should be the first ones to have to go to the front line. Such a waste. Here we are broke in the US and spending money like drunken sailor over seas. It’s treasoness. That’s what it is.
